How to Use a Brush Cutter Safely
Release Date: 2025-12-24
Summary: The brush cutter should be placed or secured on a solid, level surface. The work area must be spacious and equipped with fire‑prevention measures.
Mowers pose significant hazards; improper use can easily result in personal injury or equipment damage. Farmers are advised to heed the following precautions when operating a mower and to follow the sequence outlined below.
1. Read the instruction manual thoroughly.
Before use, carefully read the instruction manual, thoroughly memorize the safety precautions outlined therein, and master the installation, adjustment, operation, and maintenance procedures. Also, familiarize yourself with the applicable scope and relevant technical specifications, such as rated power and spindle speed.
II. Installation and Adjustment Requirements
1. The brush cutter shall be placed or secured on a solid, level surface. The work area shall be spacious and equipped with fire‑prevention measures.
2. Please select a motor strictly in accordance with the rated power and speed specified in the instruction manual. The power cord must use copper conductors with a cross-sectional area of at least 6 mm², and the current rating of the power switch, socket, plug, and other electrical components must not be lower than the motor’s rated current (refer to the motor’s instruction manual for specific requirements). The power switch should be installed within the operator’s reach—typically no more than 3 meters from the operator—and there should be no obstructions between the switch and the operator.
3. Use the pulleys supplied with the grass cutter whenever possible. Do not arbitrarily alter the pulley size or increase the machine’s rotational speed.
4. Adjust the clearance between each moving blade and the stationary blade, setting it to a width that allows two sheets of printing paper to pass through while ensuring no rubbing or contact occurs between the moving and stationary blades. After adjustment, tighten all fastening bolts on the moving blades and the stationary blade (if necessary, use an extension to increase the lever arm and achieve tighter torque). Finally, secure the upper housing and verify that it is firmly and reliably locked in place.
5. Before installing the motor and attaching the belt, apply power for a short period to verify that the motor (drive pulley) rotates in the same direction as the specified cutter wheel rotation. (Reversing the chopper is strictly prohibited.) Then install the belt and adjust it to an appropriate tension.
6. Install the belt guard, grass hopper, and other accessories. Add an appropriate amount of lubricant to components requiring lubrication, such as the gearbox and bearings.
III. Pre-Work Preparation and Inspection Requirements
Before each operation, the following preparatory and inspection steps must be carried out in sequence. Only after confirming that all requirements are met may the forage-chopping operation proceed.
① Inject an appropriate amount of lubricating oil into each grease fitting. ② Check that the clearance between the moving and stationary blades meets the specified requirements; if any issues are found, adjust them according to the prescribed procedure. ③ Inspect the cutter wheel, blades, frame, and other components for cracks; replace any damaged parts as necessary. ④ Verify that all fasteners on the blades and other parts are securely tightened; address any loose fasteners promptly. ⑤ Ensure that the upper housing is properly locked and firmly secured; tighten it immediately if any looseness is detected. ⑥ Connect the power supply and run the machine at no load for 2–5 minutes, confirming that the chopper’s rotation direction matches the specified direction (do not open the upper housing during this time). Observe whether the machine operates smoothly, with no unusual noises or vibrations; stop the machine and rectify any problems found. ⑦ Check that the gearshift lever moves freely and that gear changes are accurate and reliable; resolve any issues after stopping the machine. ⑧ Inspect the straw to be chopped for metal objects, stones, or other hard materials; remove any such foreign matter.
IV. Homework Requirements
1. During operation, it is strictly prohibited to remove the belt guard or the feed hopper; it is also strictly prohibited to fabricate or replace the feed hopper with a safety guard whose dimensions are less than 55 cm; and it is strictly prohibited to open the upper machine housing.
2. Individuals who have not mastered the safety procedures for the grass-chopping machine are prohibited from operating it alone.
3. It is strictly prohibited for minors, as well as individuals who are intoxicated, unwell, or excessively fatigued, to operate machinery.
4. When feeding material, hold the rear half of the straw with both hands; after guiding the front half into the feed inlet, promptly release both hands. It is strictly prohibited to insert your hands into the feed inlet.
5. Control the feed rate. The feed should be uniform and not excessive. If you notice the chopper’s RPM dropping, the noise increasing, or uneven discharge and a significant reduction in the throwing distance, it indicates that the feed rate is too high; reduce it promptly.
6. If an abnormality occurs during operation, immediately disconnect the power supply. It is strictly prohibited to inspect or troubleshoot the machine while it is running.
7. When stopping the forage-chopping operation, allow the chopper to continue running at idle for 2–3 minutes to blow out any material remaining inside. After shutting down, set the gearshift lever to the “Stop” position.
V. Maintenance and Servicing Requirements
1. The forage harvester should be stored indoors whenever possible; if stored outdoors, take precautions against rain and moisture to prevent rusting.
2. When replacing the moving and stationary blade fastening bolts, high-strength bolts must be used; ordinary fasteners are not permitted as substitutes.
3. The cutting edges of the moving and stationary blades shall be kept sharp and regularly resharpened.
4. The bearings should be cleaned and lubricated with grease every six months.
